For the last 5 months, I have sat in a hotel conference room for an entire weekend in order to become a trained life coach. During these weekends, people come from all across America to be trained. Luckily for me, there was a small group of us that was there every single time. Part of this small group is a woman named Kate. Yesterday, I was fortunate enough to watch Kate grow from Squashed Kate to Seen Kate. I would try to explain what I mean but no one can explain it better than Kate can. And what do you know, Kate so graciously wrote this week’s blog post. So now I, like you, can kick your feet up, read and enjoy!
“Allow Yourself to Be Seen and Life Will Support You”
By: Kate. A Co-Active trained coach from Mankato, MN.
As I approached the last of a five course series to become a Co-Active Coach this weekend, I found myself swimming in hesitation, self-doubt and fear. My saboteur, the critical voice in my head, took over my thoughts, and I felt defeated. This was an all too familiar place, and I couldn’t get out of it.
Today, the second day of our last course, a miracle happened. I took a leap of faith and acted on a fleeting opportunity to be coached by a CTI trainer during a coaching demonstration. The instructor asked to coach someone that “really wanted to make a shift in their life.” As the room went dead silent, I seized the opportunity to move forward.
With the support of this CTI trainer and an entire room of coaches, I unveiled my fears and began to tell my story to the group. As I spoke with conviction and commitment, I looked around and saw a captive audience seemingly compelled by my compassion and my vision. For what felt like the first time, I allowed myself to be seen and heard.
As a Midwestern woman who grew up in an alcoholic family, I know what it’s like to be silenced, squashed, and encouraged to be anything but authentic. Stepping into authenticity and claiming what I believe to a room filled with support and compassion was, quite possibly, one of the most life-changing experiences that I have had. In speaking and owning my truth and having that truth embraced by others, I was transformed.
In that moment when I decided to claim who I am and what I believe in, life supported me. After my coaching experience was complete, three people jumped at the opportunity to either help me or collaborate with me in the pursuit of my passion. The irony of this situation is I have craved support and acceptance of the for as long as I can remember, yet, in throwing all that out the window and deciding to accept and claim my voice, what I desired came to me.
In opening up and taking a risk to be vulnerable and real in the world, there may be times where we feel squashed and silenced. But there may also be those moments where we take a leap to continue to be who we are, to show our commitment to what matters most to us in life, and in doing so are met by allies stronger than we ever thought were possible, and by opportunities greater than we ever could imagine.
Kate is right. If we allow ourselves to truly be seen by others, we are opening up ourselves to the universe. Are you allowing yourself to be seen? Are you showing up authentically and claiming who you are? If you’re not, my guess is that you are craving this deep down in your soul.
If you’re ready to be vulnerable, take a risk and show up in this world with conviction, then I’m your gal. As your coach, we will work together to allow you to be seen and watch as life steps up to support you. Fill out the form below to schedule a complimentary phone coaching session!
