What you can’t see in this picture is that my mind is always full of ideas and reflections. I use journaling as a way to get what’s swirling around in there out into the open so I can look at it objectively. When did your personal development journey start?🧐. . For me, it was after graduating college. For the first time in my life I was suddenly responsible for all of my decisions, my direction and my dreams! I found myself immersed in big questions, self-reflection and...confusion.😔 . . I think it really kicked up a notch when I sat in a conference room and had a networking call with a connection of mine who is a coach and a business owner. I wanted, at the time, to know what I meant to do both of those things. Before the call was over, I knew I was going to take a risk and start a coaching business.💪🏽 . . So, when did your journey start? What opened your eyes to a new version of you? Who or what made you want to start consistently start leveling up your life?🌲
My friend Bethany (@ralphy1612 ) invited me to a 30 days of yoga challenge on Facebook and so far, it’s been amazing. I know one person in the group and it’s amazing how powerful accountability can be. It’s only day 3 but you can feel the pull of “not today” or another excuse coming up. 👍🏽. . It’s amazing what happens when women come together for a greater purpose, one that encourages us all to be better.😍. . Just like at @themerryhour - featured in this pic - the most chill “networking” event I’ve ever been to. 50% of my closet consists of white shirts. Why is this important? Because it’s a reflection of a way I’ve simplified my life so that an every day decision like picking a shirt can be easy. You make 35,000 choices a day (google it). Don’t let yourself get distracted by the small decisions. Last night at yoga, in the final moments of shavasana, the teacher said “it is ok to protect yourself”. I often have moments in yoga where my eyes immediately fill with tears and this was one of them.🥺 . . I think it hit me in that way because I often associate protecting myself with things like not running alone at night, keeping my purse close and hanging with the right crowd.🙅🏽‍♀️ . . But there are other ways that we protect ourselves. We say “no” to things that don’t serve us, we say “yes” to things that fill us up and we creatively design our lives to align with our values, dreams and wishes. I never thought of them as basic safety measures needed to survive...but that’s what they are!💗 . . What have you done recently to protect yourself? For me, it was a gentle reminder to myself that I’m working on followership and not leadership right now.🌲

What To Do When You’re Stuck: Have you ever been stuck? I have. It sucks. (Does that rhyme-ish?)🙃 The number one thing that I do when I’m stuck is move my focus to something else. I paint, I start a new project, I focus on another area of my life... whatever I can do to get my attention off of the stuck thing. 🧐 And want to know what happens when I do that? Miraculously, everything I’m suddenly not focusing on starts to change. When I’m ready to bring my attention back to the stuck thing, it looks AND feels different. Suddenly, everything flows again.👍🏽 What do you do when you’re stuck?🌲
My @thegivingkeys necklace reads “inspire”. It’s amazing what we can do, believe and accomplish when we anchor to a specific word. At the last @themerryhour we were asked to share one word to describe 2018 and 2019. For me, 2018 is ‘surrender’ and 2019 is ‘light’. What are your words?🌲
I believe every day we have a choice. We can choose to hide from life (complaining, avoiding risks, staying in our comfort zones) or we can embrace this gift we have. Today, I’m choosing to wake up feeling energized (even though I could’ve slept another 2 hours), I’m appreciative to be going to a job that aligns with my values and my passions and I’m choosing to put my self out there at an awesome networking event tonight called @themerryhour 💯What are you choosing today?🌲
Today is my half-birthday and I just had an a-ha moment. 🧐I sent my mom to the hospital 5 times before I was finally ready to come out. I used to see it like I was in charge of the timing. This was just me “being me” since I was a baby. But today, I thought maybe the first 4 times I tried to call the shots and it was the 5th time when God decided it was time.🌲
I had coffee with a fellow @gustavusadolphuscollege alumna. I shared with her how I’ve been focusing on following and going where I am being called to versus always deciding that I have to be in charge. She called it “followership” a phrase that I had never heard before and now LOVE. She said “in order to understand leadership, we must understand followership”. As soon as the words came out of her mouth, angels came down to our Panera coffee table. Not really, but it was one of the most beautiful things I have heard in a long time. Yesterday, I heard someone complaining about the sunshine. “It’s too bright”. Earlier in the week, I heard them complaining about the cloudy, rainy, overcast climate we’ve been experiencing.🤷🏽‍♀️ Filling space with negativity, complaints, cynicism or drama, is just as exhausting for you as it is for everyone else around you. Even little, positive, motivate-everyone-else me is guilty of this at times. 😐 Today, be positive. Hold your tongue when you feel a complaint or something with bad vibes wanting to come up. Approach your day as a “glass half full” kinda gal and lead with your light.💡 We ALL have a light within us that just might brighten someone else’s day.🌲

Reasons why I could’ve quit training for the 10 mile: time, tripped and ripped my knees open, unexpected injury 1 week before, rain, laziness, ”busy”, lack of confidence, boredom, fear of failure, bought expensive running shoes that sucked, got a weird rash, chafing, missed a training run, saw someone running faster than me, too hot, too cold... 🙃 Reasons why I kept going: I keep my promises to myself, I want to lead by example, I looped my sisters into doing it with me, to show my last-year-self I have improved, Hebrews 12:1, too-close-for-comfort crash landing, challenging myself to do what I can while I am able after watching a crippled woman climb a vortex in Sedona... the list goes on, and it’s so much more powerful than my excuses.💪🏽 Find your why. Find the thing that makes your excuses disappear or at least take a back seat once in a while. Be your biggest competitor. Value yourself enough to commit to what you want out of life.🌲
